What you should add to your playlist this week...
The Coasters - Down in Mexico
"Dang, Melvin, you look just like Charlie McCarthy!"
This song is perfect for summertime. It's got a sunny southern feel, plus it's about a moustachio'd man named Joe. It's a win-win. It was the Coasters first single in 1956, this is the re-recorded 1970 version.
Also, it's the soundtrack to the lap dance scene in Death Proof, which has to be one of the hottest non-nude, non-porn scenes I've seen since the midget orgy in Zoolander.
The Grass Roots - I'd Wait a Million Years The Grass Roots now are most famous for being the band that Creed from The Office was in.
 "Rock!"
It's brilliant late-60s pop (1969) to be exact. I'm a sucker for descending chord progressions and "whoa-oh" background vocals, and this has it all.
It also has that yearning quality to it that evokes memories of when I was 16 and wondering why the cheerleaders weren't into a skinny dork with braces who listened to Prince all day.
Fun fact! I have a Dunder-Mifflin mug with Creed on it.

Sammy Hagar's song, "Mexico" off of his Livin' it Up! album is supposed to be an emulation of The Coaster's "Down in Mexico."
