You want something awesome to listen to? Go get the new Titus Andronicus album, Monitor.

(buy from Amazon)

What does it sound like? It sounds like a bunch of drunk guys singing about the Civil War. What's really great is the production on it - feels like you're listening to them playing live at some seedy bar in downtown Austin.

The band's sound is a mixture of Against Me!, The Clash, and Trail of Dead. Good times.

Best tunes on it:
To Old Friends and New (on the Playlist!) - This could be the sequel to "Fairytale of New York" by the Pogues. "We could build a nice life together if we don't kill each other first."

"Four Score and Seven" is another great "us against them" anthem. Sounds like drunken-sailor music.

A More Perfect Union is great, reminds me of Trail of Dead.

Anyways, I love it, definitely a pick for my Top 304 albums of 2010.

I had been meaning to check these guys out. Pitchfork's pretty fond of them too.

Have you checked out Lollapalooza's lineup yet? They released the actual schedule last week. Saturday and Sunday are pretty sexy. Friday's kind of meh. I'll definitely be there Saturday and Sunday.

Lady Gaga, The Strokes, The Big Pink AND Chromeo on Friday?? That's way sexier than meh! Saturday and Sunday are sexy indeed :)

Friday seems pretty awesome actually. Then again, "meh" at Lollapalooza is still better than Rusted Root at the Cleveland Rib Cookoff.

Yeah, I'm usually looking at the 2pm-7pm run of acts. By the time the headliners hit, it's usually too crowded and you're just watching on screens from very far away. So I usually ignore who the headliners are when deciding which days I want to hit, unless it's someone I really really want to see.

Also, a couple of the bands I want to see on Friday are playing after shows at the Metro on Thursday and Saturday night. Metro is right down the street from me and an awesome small venue, and one of my friends is a talent buyer there, so I can usually get on the comp list. Some of my highlights from last year's Lolla weekend were experienced outside of Grant Park when I saw Decemberists and Fleet Foxes at midnight shows at Metro, when they're bands that normally would be playing larger venues for higher prices.

If I skip Friday Lolla, I miss Cymbals Eat Guitars and Dirty Projectors, but both are bands I've already seen, so I'm not heartbroken about it. That all being said, when that weekend rolls around, I'll probably be too excited to skip Friday and will end up going anyway.
